My Canvas
Specializing in 3D ocean art and oil on canvas featuring fictional concepts, I have spent over two decades as a creative senior director in Hawaii, crafting solutions for numerous clients. Originally from the Philippines, I relocated to the U.S. with my mother and settled in Hawaii at the age of 19. The beauty of the island has been my muse, leading me to create a series of Hawaiian legends in my retirement. Enjoy the magic of the islands!

Pele
With a palette of fiery oranges, deep reds, and molten yellows, Roger Suga, captures the intensity of Pele, the revered Hawaiian goddess of fire and volcanoes. The poetic name for her is Ka wahine ‘ai hōnua, the woman who devours the earth. Her form is both ethereal and powerful, a manifestation of the volcanic energy that shaped all of the Hawaiian islands. The viewer can notice rivers of lava flowing. These rivers will forge the valleys and mountains of Hawai`i nei (beloved Hawai`i). Legend shares that as Pele journeyed across the islands and reached Maui, her volcanic essence clashed with the mighty demigod Kamapuaʻa. With lava rivers and storms, they shaped Maui's lush valleys and volcanic landscapes, a testament to their elemental might forever etched in the island's story. The painting not only honors Pele's role as a creator but also pays homage to the intricate relationship between Kanaka Maoli (native Hawaiians) and the dynamic forces of nature that continue to shape their world.

Kahalaopuna, The Rainbow Goddess
Kahalaopuna, the Rainbow Goddess, is brought to life by Roger Suga. Against a backdrop of ethereal skies, Kahalaopuna stretches gracefully, her form embodying the arching beauty of a rainbow that spans across the canvas. As the embodiment of transformation and hope, she is surrounded by native I'iwi birds, whose scarlet plumage echo the hues of the rainbow. Alongside them, regal roosters assert their significance as symbols of pride and protection, paying homage to Hawaiian tradition. In the foreground, the Nene, the endemic Hawaiian goose represents the harmonious coexistence between nature and the divine. This painting encapsulates the rich culture of Hawai`i as Kahalaopuna intertwines with the island's unique flora and fauna, seamlessly creating a harmonious and visually captivating narrative.
